Also note that the Standard price may be subject to change between time of offer and time of purchase.

Inverters/Power Solutions (Mecer & Victron)

All inverters must be installed by a Qualified Electrician (licensed wireman) / Master electrician with a valid registration with the Department of Labour. A valid electrical certificate of compliance (C.O.C) must be issued once installation is complete. Any warranty claim submitted without installation photos, a valid C.O.C and proof of a qualified wireman/master electrician installing the unit, can be rejected and will render the warranty claim null and void.

The warranty does not cover damage resulting from:

  • Power surge
  • Under-voltage / Over-voltage
  • Lightning/ Weather damage/ Excessive heat exposure/ Condensation
  • Corrosion/ Sea spray/ Water damage
  • Dust or any solid particles/ Sand
  • Insects/ Lizards
  • Negligence by the installer or homeowner
  • Incorrect installation
  • Inadequate protection device rating
  • Tampering (broken seal)
  • Dirty filters
  • Exceeding the maximum power rating, current or voltage for the input solar circuit, DC battery input, AC input and AC output.

The warranty will be void if the unit is:

  • Not installed as per manufacturers specifications
  • Not installed with a minimal 40kA surge protection unit for both live and neutral wires from the AC incoming supply
  • Not installed with a minimal 40kA surge protection unit for both positive and negative wires from the AC incoming supply
  • Not protected by the calculated and required 2 pole breakers for the input and output of the inverter
  • Not installed with a changeover switch
  • The battery input must be protected by a rated fuse for both the negative and positive connections, within the calculated PSCC ratings.
  • Tampered with (attempted to open the unit)
  •  Visible damage to the unit

The warranty will be void

  • if the serial number label is missing, damaged or tampered with.
  • if the product is damaged.

Repairs must be returned with original purchase invoice and fault report!

Batteries (Vision)

The following instances are not covered under warranty:

  • Water damage: the unit needs to be checked internally and externally.
  • Presence of dirt and soot inside the unit.  Soot is the biggest culprit, as it contains carbon which conducts electricity and will cause damage.

  • Reverse polarity. Reverse polarity is when the negative battery cable is connected to the positive Multi terminal and vice versa. In general this is not purposefully mixing the cables, but reverse polarity is caused by a wiring mistake or wrongly labelled cables. Reverse polarity can usually only be detected by a repair agent.

  • Lightning strikes and power surges. Lightning strikes and power surges are not always evident. This can usually only be detected by a repair agent. But in most cases the customer will tell you about it, or more electrical devices broke down at the same time.

  • Insects and other pests, even mice can get into the unit and cause a short circuit sometimes even inside the unit. In most cases they are visible after opening the unit and when closely inspecting inside.

  • Age of unit
Any unit older than 1 year from date of invoice does not fall under warranty.

  • Mechanical damage can be anything from clearly dented cases, to accidental holes drilled into the units casing, straight through an essential internal part.  Another item that gets easily damaged is the AC and DC connectors. The bolts and screws that make up these connectors are made of copper and can break when excessive force is applied when tightening.

Exclusions of warranty

  1. Discharge batteries. A reasonable time must be allowed to recharge the battery in order that it may be tested. (10-14 working days)

  1. Should a teardown reveal the presence of “white” sulphation – the obvious result from inadequate charging the claim will be disallowed.

  1. Empty batteries.  There are only three ways that a battery can lose electrolyte.
3.1        A hole or crack in the casing and the electrolyte leaks out.
3.2        Overvoltage during the charge process either by the regulator failing on the alternator or by the use of an unregulated battery charger. Most modern battery chargers are micro processor controlled, are very simple to use, are safe to be left connected to the battery for long periods of time and are inexpensive. The use of Automatic, “ intelligent “ battery chargers are encouraged , especially on sealed batteries and will in fact enhance the life of a battery with regular use.
3.3        If a battery has been left discharged for a long period of time, the sulphation process inhibits the charge process. It causes a build up of heat as a result of high resistance. This causes the battery to gas and results in the subsequent loss of electrolyte through the breather, which is calibrated to allow the gas to escape, to prevent the battery from exploding. In some instances, should the charge rate be too high, then the condensation chamber might not have the capacity to process the high volume of hydrogen and oxygen and the battery can explode.
3.4        NOTE: when a battery charger is connected permanently to a battery, (E.G. standby or back up application), then only a CONSTANT VOLTAGE CHARGER may be used. If not, the battery will lose electrolyte due to gassing.

  1. Damaged casings and broken terminals.  Physical damage in any way to the battery is not a factory fault.
4.1        Always check that terminals are tight. Loose terminals are a common problem which causes arcing or flashing and results in the terminal or post being burned off.
4.2        The same situation when a vehicle is being jump started with jumper cables. Ensure that connections are tight and safe.
4.3        When attaching cables to the terminals, do not over tighten. When using the thread type terminal the maximum torque permissible is 18 – 20 Newton metres.

  1.         Full data logging will be required for batteries used for Solar, Standby, Backup and Telecom applications with the following details from installation date:
    •           Site Temperature
    •           Charging Parameters
    •           Cycling parameters
    •           Charging parameters vs. battery spec
If data cannot be supplied for these specific applications warranty will be void.

This warranty shall not apply in cases where a battery:

  • is used in an application where specifications require a battery of a different size/ampere hour capacity, or
  • is fitted below the suggested ampere hour capacity of the system that it is intended for, or
  • is damaged due to negligence, improper use/application, abuse, excessive/abnormal wear and tear, or
  • is fitted close to a heat source that raises the temperature on a constant basis above the levels as prescribed by the manufacturer, or
  • is damaged due to environmental conditions or any other damage arising from accident, civil commotion, labour / political unrest or rioting.
  • is not installed, maintained or removed by a Licensed (Wireman’s license) / Master electrician.

Furthermore, this warranty does not apply or extend to any batteries that have been subjected to the following adverse conditions:

  • loose wiring (external), rusted or corroded hardware
  • abuse, neglect or accident
  • discharging beyond the recommended depth of discharge
  • exposure to excessive hot or cold temperatures; bulged or otherwise damaged from excessive heat
  • operating conditions or applications above the rated capacity of the product
  • improperly sized batteries or over-/undersized battery sets, and improperly sized charging systems
  • overcharging
  • use of the battery in an uncharged condition (i.e. continuous use while excessively discharged)
  • damage from peripheral electrical equipment
  • batteries that have had their unique serial number removed, altered or tampered with or where proof of purchase is not available
  • improper storage, installation, maintenance, repair or removal
  • breakage, freezing, explosion, fire, wreckage, charging or installing in reverse polarity, melted and/or broken terminals
  • not used, operated and/or maintained in accordance with instructions and precautions outlined in the Product User Manual and accompanying technical resources
  • The customer must utilize an inverter / charger that meets the requirements as set out in the Product User Manual

No liability whatsoever will be accepted by the manufacturer for any damage or losses howsoever caused and of whatsoever nature whether in contract and/or direct, or consequential or otherwise as sustained by the purchaser or any other person resulting from the failure or defect of this battery.
